Melissa’s destruction as “catastrophie” leaves thousands dead, homeless & huge economic damageMore than 1.5 million Jamaicans have been impacted by the devastation resulting from Hurricane Melissa, many losing their homes and livelihoods.
On October 28, 2025, Jamaica faced a nightmare many feared but few truly imagined: Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 superstorm, made landfall near New Hope on the island’s southwestern coast, unleashing wind, rain, and destruction on a scale not seen before in modern Jamaican history. Category 5 storm, affecting 1.6 million people and causing severe, widespread damage. The hurricane left 45 people confirmed dead, destroyed homes, schools, including the loss of roof or walls, and vital infrastructure, and displaced more than 90,000 households

PEOPLE LOST THEIR HOMES
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, many families have found their lives turned upside down, facing the devastation of loosing their homes and possessions, At least 40 percent of the buildings and roads on the western part of the island, including Montego Bay, suffered damage. Many small communities, such as the port town Black River, were almost completely wiped out.

Your pledge will help strengthen the local economy by supporting the farmers, vendors, and small businesses who were also impacted by Hurricane Melissa. By directing funds toward local suppliers, we not only provide essential resources but also help local communities recover and rebuild. Every contribution enables the purchase of fresh food, and essential meals from nearby producers and vendors
